Occupational health and safety (OHS) policy

We provide a healthy, safe and environmentally friendly working environment in pursuance of the fulfillment of the requirements of CAP 514 of the laws of Kenya. We are committed to ensuring the health, safety and welfare of our employees and visitors.

Our objectives include, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and statutory requirements, offering information, instructions and training necessary to enable safe performance of work. Ensuring that the design of all processes and systems if work take full account of health and safety, ensuring the provision and maintenance of adequate facilities to take care of safety issues and providing a forum for the employees to raise issues of health and safety.

The policy’s implementation is done through the total commitment from all levels of employees. Specialist advice is sought from external health and safety advisors on issues regarding to first aid, emergency procedures and fire fighting, health surveillance and relevant information,

Our OHS policy is integrated with OHS&AS 18001, environmental management ISO 14001:2004, ISO 9001:2000 and HACCP quality management systems. The integration is on the focus points and commonality within all different standards with the objective of addressing corporate social responsibility, internal efficiency and consumer safety.

Our policy is monitored to ensure that the objectives are achieved, reviewed and revised in the light of legislative and organizational changes.

IMS policy

We are committed to the provision of quality, innovative and safe milk and milk products. In particular, the management endeavors to meet and surpass all of our stakeholders requirements and to ensure continual improvement, allocate necessary resources to achieve our business goals and objectives, asses the level of all significant business risks (quality, food safety, occupational health and safety and environment) and so far as reasonably practicable, ensure they are eliminated or adequately controlled.

We also comply with statutory and other regulations applicable to our business activities, maintain the highest standards in the milk supply, processing and distribution chain through innovation and adoption of world class technology practices and continually review the IMS objectives and targets and communicate to all stakeholders.

HACCP policy

Our adherence to world-class quality operations that continue to ensure Goodness for all have once more been rewarded.

Brookside Dairy is now Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) certified, a strong endorsement from standards group S.G.S that our commitment to customer satisfaction is in line with the best global practices.

With HACCP, we scored another milestone in the dairy sector. We were the first dairy processor in the region to be certified ISO 9001: 2000 for the quality and safety of our products.

Now with HACCP, our customers can be assured of the very best from a partner with the best quality and safety management standards.

Environmental policy

Our environment management is guided by our national legislation and ISO 14001 as minimum requirements. We continue to uphold the principles of environmental management to all our staff and suppliers and encourage their involvement in the protection and conservation of our natural resources, the reduction of emission to soil, water and air, appropriate disposal of solid and liquid waste and the adoption of environmentally friendly technology.

Our management representative, the operation manager and our environmental co-ordinator are charged with the responsibility of daily environmental work among other duties and shall ensure corporate objectives and targets set for the significant environmental aspect are achieved and reviewed from time to time to ensure continuous improvement.

Industry recognition

We are proud of the fact that industry standards enforcers now acknowledge our steadfastness in adhering to quality operations and have continued to appropriately cite us for commendation.

Besides HACCP and ISO 9001:2000, our operations have also been certified OHS and ISO 14001 compliant, and have also won the Kenya Bureau of Standards Diamond Mark of Quality.

We were also declared by organizers of the prestigious Company of the Year (COYA) awards as the 2006 winners of the Quality Management award.

The award confirmed that quality is at the core of our entire operations whether in production, management, marketing or how we handle our customer.

Most important, the award identifies Brookside Dairy as the industry’s trend-setters in quality management which further emboldens us to continue investing in excellence in pursuit of only the best for our consumers.

With HACCP, our operations are now more efficient and effective, and Brookside consumers are better assured that our range of milk and milk products conform to the best quality and safety standards in the world today.
The award, along with the other awards so far awarded to Brookside Dairy go a long way in fulfilling our vision as the leading milk processors in the region, and as the benchmark for quality.

Food safety policy:

BROOKSIDE DAIRY LIMITED is committed to provision of safe products to our customers.  This is implemented through a documented food safety management system following the principles of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP). 

The management shall spare no effort in provision of adequate resources required in implementation of the food safety management system.  This includes Finance, Human, Resources, Personnel, Facilities, Infrastructure and Training to assure food safety.  In addition, we shall strive to comply with all relevant legislation.  All staff shall be continually made aware of their role in production of safe products that meet the customers’ needs.

Hiv/aids policy:

The Company recognises the gravity and implications of the HIV/AIDS epidemic for the individuals who are infected, their family, the company, its employees and the co- workers of affected individuals.

The Company commits itself to addressing HIV/AIDS in a positive, supportive and non-discriminatory manner and seeks to minimise the social, economic and developmental consequences of this epidemic to both the Company and its employees.
